2026 MELODIES & MEMORIES

laopress.com has come a long way since it first went online in 1997. What began as a small community news page for Lao people around Sydney slowly grew into something much bigger — a home for music, culture, and stories that connect us across generations.

Back then, it was all just a hobby. We loved organising events, meeting people, and following the rise of Lao music. Creating laopress.com became a fun way to document everything happening. It also became a practical way to learn English, one article at a time.

Over the years, we purchased song rights, helped distribute music, and even produced a few albums. The best part of it all was meeting talented singers, famous artists, and many wonderful friends along the way. These memories are priceless.

Of course, life changes. Priorities shift. There were times when laopress.com had to sit quietly in the background while we focused on family, work, and everything else life demanded. But somehow, the site always remained — waiting patiently for the next chapter.

Looking back, it has been an adventurous journey filled with passion, persistence, and countless hours of work. Was it worth it? The simple answer might be “no.” But the real answer depends on how you see value.

So what’s next?
Most likely the same thing we’ve always done — sharing music, community news, and stories whenever time allows. No pressure. No deadlines. Just love for our culture and the joy of creating something meaningful.

A massive thank you to everyone who has been with us since the dial-up days of 1997, and a warm welcome to those who just found us today. The melody continues at laopress.com!
