This song is a love letter written directly from a cherished high school memory. It takes us way back to the high school hall, where the journey began.

I remember being completely captivated by a certain beautiful girl. Not only was she pretty, young, and smart, she was academically brilliant—a girl who seemed entirely out of my league, yet the only one I ever truly wanted.

How could I possibly tell her how much I liked her? She possessed the cutest smile that you ever see and was truly the happiest girl whenever you see her. This joy radiated from her and drew everyone in.

The climax of this teenage crush was the school disco. I felt a tremendous rush of pride to have the courage to ask her for a dance, slow dance. That simple act was the beginning of everything.

The song, “Be My Princess,” is the recreation of the feeling and the moment we had that slow dance. The lyrics are anchored in that reality:

The opening line, “Sunrise paints the window pane / A new day dawning just the same / But you shine brighter than the sun,” speaks to how her presence transformed the ordinary world for me.

The lines “Simple dress no fancy crown / Just the cutest smile in this whole town,” perfectly describe her down-to-earth nature and that unforgettable smile, proving she was beautiful without any pretense.

And the plea, “Be my princess, oh my dear / Cast away every single fear,” is what I was silently wishing that entire night.

“Be My Princess” is truly another crazy love song story. Every time I look back at that memory, especially when the song plays, it gives so much joy and paints a big smile in my face. It is a wish that that perfect, slow-dance moment would last eternally.
