SO BRAVE

Last week, one of my sons went through a tough time in his young and otherwise happy life. As a father, it was heartbreaking to see him in pain and to hold his hand in operating room.
He walked straight onto the top of that operating bed, no hesitation, no fear in his eyes. Just a quiet determination, like he was ready to just get it over with. It was incredible to watch, a testament to his spirit.
My heart ached, a knot of emotion tightening in my chest as I watched him, so brave and so daring. He’s so cute, my beautiful, loving boy. Tears started to flow, a mix of helplessness and immense pride. So incredibly proud of you, my beautiful son, for being so incredibly brave.
“So Brave” is a song for my boy. Love you son.
So Brave
Cold room, a quiet fear,
You, on the bed, so near.
No tremble, no delay,
Just ready for the day.
Brave boy, my heart’s in pain,
Watching you, through falling rain
Of tears. So proud, it’s true,
My beautiful son, that’s you.
Your hand in mine, then softly gone,
As sleep takes hold, moving on.
My grip grows light, my breath held tight,
Wishing I could share your fight.
