WAT PHU CHAMPASAK
Where the hell do you
get information about World Heritage site
known as Wat Phu Champasak? Well, how
about let these two punks from Smartzon punk
rock group educate you. You may learn plenty
from "Wat Phu Champasak " punk rock
song from these famous dudes singing about world
famous temple situates in the southern part of
Laos, 50km from Champasak capital city, Pakse.
Wat Phu literally
means mountain temple. It spreads across
Phu Khuai. The surviving structures date
as far back as Angor Wat of Cambodia or
Buriram of Thailand.
Wat Phu was the most
recent site in Laos listed as World Heritage
site in December 2002. Local southerners still celebrate
festival as their ancestors have been for
thousand of years before them. These
three days event attracts pilgrims from
immediate neighbouring countries such Cambodia
and Thailand.
The former Lao Lane
Xang kings travelled to the hot province to
celebrate & mingle with local. Now
many high ranking officials from over the
country come together celebrating this special
event with ordinary people. Recently
many big mansions pop up surround nearby
villages.
Typical events during
these special days include boat races, boxing
matches, buffalo fights, lum vong, lum leuang,
and live bands etc.... Well, my favourite
event was watching artists performing southern
style lum live.

Entry fee applies to get into Wat Phu.
During the festival ( Maka Puja Celebration -
February) the entry is waived. So visit
Wat Phu.

SMARTZON TRAVELED MEN
This group is known as SMARTZON. They are a
real pro. Consists of Joy Tippachan Keokonnang and Gus Sisavath
Lanxang. Although they have been around for years but have
not yet released any album. 2005 is the year. Here are their
